About the Episode
(Note: Apologies for some crackling in the audio of this episode.)
Charlotte talks about mythology that’s a little closer to home: the Mabinogion, a famous collection of Celtic folklore that dates back to the 12th-13th Century. The stories are set in the world of giants and enchantments where royal families are at war, people transform into animals, and wizards craft a woman from flowers.
This episode focuses on one story in particular: the tale of Branwen, sister of Brân the Blessed, king of Britain. When Branwen is given in marriage to Matholwch, king of Ireland, our tragic tale begins.
