About the Episode
In the first episode of 2020 (and the decade!) Charlotte goes over some stats about New Year’s resolutions, and shares 8 tips on how to make your goals more exciting, more attainable, and easier to achieve.
Here’s a quick summary of the tips:
Make it specific. Instead of saying “save more money”, make it “I will save £6000 this year.”
Make it measurable. Rather than “lose weight”, say “I want to lose 3 stone before my wedding” or “I want to lose X number of inches from my waistline”.
Make it attainable. You shouldn’t say “I’m going to read 350 books” when this year you only read 10. Or you might not be able to buy a house in the next 12 months if you currently only have £1000 saved.
Make it exciting and worth achieving. Saying “I want to save money so I can buy a new car or go to Disneyland or be able to travel across Asia” means you have an actual thing that will make you excited to achieve your goal.
Split into into smaller, actionable goals. For example, saving a small amount every week or month will help you towards your larger savings goal, or writing a certain number of words each day will add up to a whole novel.
Have an accountability partner. If you’ve got someone else, like a friend or family member, who is trying to achieve their goal at the same time, you can regularly check in with each other to keep yourselves accountable.
Record it or write it down. Track is using an actual habit tracker, or even just writing it down and sticking it somewhere you’ll always see it will constantly remind you of the goal you want to achieve.
Don’t beat yourself up if you don’t achieve it or you lose interest in the goal. Maybe reconsider how you can get there, if it’s still relevant to your life, or if it’s still realistic. If it isn’t, don’t worry!
