Let's Learn About... #1: Welcome to the Show!

Charlotte: Right... we're recording.

Ellie: It is official now. It's happening! IT'S HAPPENING!

Charlotte: It's happening. Hooray!

Ellie: Hooray!!

Charlotte: Hello.

Ellie: Hello!

Charlotte: It's been a while since we recorded together.

Ellie: Ah, but we're back people. We're back.

Charlotte: We're back. And not just once.

Ellie: Hopefully many more times!

Charlotte: Yep. Hooray!

Ellie: Hooray!! So... I suppose we should explain why... why we're back together again shouldn't we?

Charlotte: Yeah, we should.

Ellie: Go on then.

Charlotte

So, a little while ago, I kind of had a new idea. As I do, I have a million different ideas and I try to do them all at once. So this is why this is now happening when I have a million other things going on at the same time, but I realised that I... in case people don't know, I already have a podcast called Wonderfully Bookish, where I talk to authors and bloggers and anyone who reads books, all about books, if you couldn't tell from the name. And I also kind of wanted to talk about loads of other random topics that don't fall into the category of books. But I was like, I can't really talk about these things in a bookish podcast, because that would just be a bit strange. So I thought I could start a new podcast that is all about just random topics. So every single episode can be about something new, and we just kind of... we, we can just discuss the facts and the cool things about it, and we can just learn some really cool facts about random topics that we find interesting.

Ellie: Basically, it's the ultimate podcast for nerds and geeks like ourselves who just generally love to learn new stuff. Like who doesn't spend their lunch breaks at work falling down the wormhole that is Wikipedia?

Charlotte: Exactly, exactly. So I thought that doing it alone would be a bit rubbish. Like, if I'm just sitting here, it would turn into a bit of a lecture. Like if I'm just sitting here reading a document of facts it wouldn't be very interesting.

Ellie: And to be fair, that's what people go to uni for. And this is cheaper.

Charlotte: Yeah. So for people who might not have listened to my podcast already...

Ellie: Which they should, it really good!

Charlotte: Thanks! We spoke in one of my first... I think it was one of the first episodes...

Ellie: Was it the second or third episode?

Charlotte: I think it was... I think it might have been the second ever episode of my podcast, we spoke and it was so much fun, like it was... I think, is still one of the most fun interviews I've done. Like it was the most one of the most fun episodes I've done still.

Ellie: Awwww!

Charlotte: Because it was like, it's just great when you kind of talk to someone that you're on exactly the same wavelength with and you kind of have a lot of the same, kind of sense of humour and interests and stuff. So a new partnership was born. And here we are now.

Ellie: We are here! Like in your ears!

Charlotte: Yeah, with a brand new podcast. So this podcast is called 'Let's Learn About'.

Ellie: The brand new podcast that teaches you all the things you need to know that you didn't know you needed to know.

Charlotte: Yes, I like it! That should be our new tagline.

Ellie: That is now the tagline.

Charlotte: Yeah, I like it. So this is just a quick, kind of introduction episode just so you can kind of hear our voices, you can get to know who we are a bit and yeah, we can just start from here. So I thought maybe we should tell you a little bit about ourselves. Do you want to start or shall I start?

Ellie: It's your brain baby. I say you start.

Charlotte: Cool. So I'm Charlotte. And as I just told you, I have my bookish podcast. But alongside that I also have a blog and a YouTube channel, all called Wonderfully Bookish because consistent branding is good.

Ellie: Consistent branding is key!

Charlotte: I started my blog four years ago tomorrow actually, it's... on the day we're recording this, tomorrow is my fourth blog birthday, and yeah, since then it's kind of turned into the podcast and the YouTube channel and a load of other exciting things like, I'm also going to be hosting like a brand new book club soon in my local Waterstones, which is super exciting.

Ellie: So basically, if anyone who's listening to this, who happens to be listening to the intro, is anyone in Newport... go!

Charlotte: Come along to my book club - 27th of October 2pm. Yeah, enough of the self promo. Yeah, so that's me. I'm just kind of into books, and I also love space, so I feel like a lot of the episodes that I might do might be space related. My favourite planet is Saturn, and I'm obsessed with everything to do with Saturn. So kind of expect some episodes to do with that because I just love it. I am also a bit of like a film and TV nerd, so I might explore some topics in the world of film and TV. So yeah, I need to kind of start planning some of these topics because I've got so many things that I know I can talk about, and I'm so excited. So do you... it's your turn. Do you wanna... do you want to tell everyone a bit about you?

Ellie: Okie dokie, well my name is Elle, I am the other half of 'Let's Learn' podcast. I am also the big film and TV nerd, having opted to go to uni and be one of those statistical people that studied media.

Charlotte: Oh, yeah, same! Yep! We both did... what did you do? What was yours?

Ellie: Film and Television Studies is the precise term.

Charlotte: Mine was filming... mine was Film and TV Production, so almost exactly the same. I think mine was just, yeah, slightly less theoretical.

Ellie: Oh mine was a lot theoretical, even though I probably should have gone for your course. So, another big film and TV nerd along with books, which is how I ended up on the 'Wonderfully Bookish' podcast to start off with. I am also a really big history buff; anything to do with the Tudors or Ancient Egypt or Ancient Greece, mythical figures, I am all over like a rash, I love it so much. So I have definitely got some fun topics coming up, which may or may not have been based on the latest films I've been watching, like 'The Favourite' so there may be something about Sarah Churchill turning up.

Charlotte: I have still not seen that film.

Ellie: All I will say is: don't take your grandma to the cinema to go watch that. Don't do it!

Charlotte: You speaking from experience?

Ellie: Maybe! It was hilarious, but at the same time, not ideal, especially... oh, no, it's okay, we all survived. But I will definitely have to bring some history into the little partnership. And of course, it's not just you guys that will be learning new stuff, it will also be new stuff learning for us two as well, because I think we've decided we're going to take it in turns - one week Charlotte will do a topic that interests her, and then the next week I'll do something, do all the research and then we'll be coming back in and basically teaching each other, and hopefully yourselves, all the new things that we have learned throughout the week about the topic that we've chosen.

Charlotte: Yeah. So it's going to be... we're just... we're going to be learning right alongside you. And in the show notes on the website, which - we also have our own fancy website, which is exciting - the show notes for each episode on the website will include all the things that we've talked about in each episode, and then we'll also include like, some links and things. So if you're, if you find a subject that you are particularly interested in, or you kind of want to learn more about it, then you can head to the website and you can find out more in the links and things that will include, so you can kind of carry on learning, and who knows? You might find a thing that you'll become an expert in.

Ellie: Exactly. Or alternatively, if there is a topic that you guys are really interested in yourself, and want us to do the research for you, you can always get in contact with us either via our website or via our Instagram and Twitter pages. Let us know what subjects you want us to learn about for you and we will do our best to do it.

Charlotte: So our website is learnaboutpod.com, and our Twitter and Instagram are both @learnaboutpod.

Ellie: Consistent branding is back again!

Charlotte: I mean, I work in Marketing, so I think consistent branding is something I should know about by now.

Ellie: I tell you what, it does help. There's nothing worse than when you're trying to find someone's Twitter handles and it's completely different from... I mean, no offence to anyone who does have different ones because sometimes they get taken, and it's really friggin annoying. But maybe that's something we shall discuss in the future - marketing strategies.

Charlotte: Yeah, maybe... maybe we'll do it... we'll do a whole episode on marketing strategies!

Ellie: Why not? We both do it as jobs.

Charlotte: You know, we can... nothing is off limits on this podcast.

Ellie: Well, maybe one or two things are off limits, but sure!

Charlotte: We have to draw the line somewhere. But yeah, as Elle said, if you head to the website - learnaboutpod.com - there will be a page on there where you can submit your ideas for topics, so anything that you're interested in, just head over to the website and you can submit your topic ideas, and we might discuss them in an episode.

Ellie: And if we're ever stuck for something to research on, we can pick your guys lovely brains.

Charlotte: So you can do the work for us, basically, by coming up with our topic ideas. So yeah, each episode is going to be I think we're probably we might aim for maybe like 15/20 minutes per episode. So we've got little... they're not going to be massively long.

Ellie: Unless we really get on a tangent, in which case it may be slightly longer, but maybe, sort of, a like good car journeys length.

Charlotte: Yeah, exactly. If we find a topic that we're obsessed with...

Ellie: ...it maybe an especially long episode!

Charlotte: Yeah! So yeah, you can find us at that website - learnaboutpod.com - I'm going to keep mentioning it so you don't forget! And we will see you very soon with a new episode, and we're not sure what the first topic will be. It will be a surprise to us and you.

Ellie: But there will be a topic!

Charlotte: Yep! We will see you soon. Bye!

Ellie: Bye!
